What is l aveu?

"L'aveu" is a French language novel by Philippe Besson, first published in 2008. The English translation of the novel is titled "Lie With Me". The story is a psychological drama about a chance meeting between two childhood friends who had lost touch for more than two decades; and how they revive their friendship and eventually become emotionally involved.

Set in France, the novel explores themes of identity, love, friendship, sexuality, and nostalgia, as the protagonists struggle to reconcile their past selves with their present identities. The book has received positive reviews for its deft handling of complex emotional issues and its lyrical style.

"L'aveu" has been adapted into a critically acclaimed French language film of the same name directed by André Téchiné, released in 2016. The film stars Pierre Deladonchamps and Céline Sallette in the lead roles and was screened in competition for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
